Insurance policy review
Know the questions
behind your policy.
A structured conversation about the policy you have, the terms you want to understand and the points that need further clarification.
Give your questions a clear structure.
A policy review starts by identifying the document, your reason for reviewing it and the questions you would like answered. It may relate to a personal policy, a business arrangement, an upcoming renewal or a recent change in your circumstances.
The scope is agreed before a review begins. That includes which documents are relevant, the service available and any applicable fees. A complete picture may require more than a declarations page or a short summary.
What may be discussed.
Policy details: the named insured, policy period, listed interests and information shown in the declarations.
Limits and deductibles: terms and amounts you want clarified in the context of the actual policy.
Exclusions and conditions: wording that raises questions and matters requiring confirmation from the insurer.
Endorsements and changes: amendments or notices that may need to be read alongside the original document.
Renewal information: dates, updated terms and questions to address before making a decision.
Preparing for a review.
Start with the kind of policy involved and a short explanation of your concern. Make a note of any deadline or change in circumstances. Keep the policy and related notices available, but do not attach sensitive documents to your first inquiry.
Before sharing documents, agree on a suitable sharing method. Remove information that is not needed for the agreed task and avoid sending passwords, Social Security numbers or financial account details.
What a review does not do.
A review does not automatically change your coverage, guarantee a claim outcome, certify that every possible risk is insured or replace legal advice. Any policy transaction must be completed through an appropriately authorized party. Coverage determinations depend on the policy, the facts and the insurer’s applicable process.
For an active claim, cancellation notice or urgent coverage issue, contact your insurer or the representative shown on your policy directly. Do not rely on a website inquiry to meet a deadline.
